The Artes de Cuba Festival will be held from May 8 through the 20, 2018, at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington DC, United States, reported the Communication Center of the Ministry of Culture (CREART).

A press release from that entity states that the meeting will bring together Cuban artists living inside and outside Cuba, who will make known the artistic work of this country, the beauty of its people and the humanity of a people full of imagination and creativity.

The objective will be to present a comprehensive program that highlights the arts and the rich Cuban culture through traditional and contemporary expressions of music, dance, theater, film, visual arts, design, fashion and gastronomy.

According to the information, Artes de Cuba will be sponsored by the Kennedy Center, an institution that has a team of experience in carrying out international events and offers live theater, classical music, ballet, jazz, opera, among other artistic shows.

The program has been agreed between that center and the Cuban Music Institute, the National Council of the Performing Arts, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry and the National Council of Plastic Arts.

The Cuban musicians Rolando Luna, Aldo López Gavilán, Miguel Failde Orchestra, Los Van Van, Ulises Hernández and the Lyceum Orchestra of Havana, Zule Guerra and Quinteto Blues of Havana, Jorge Luis Pacheco, Pablo Milanés and his daughter Haydée, and the López-Nussa family.
Among Cuban artists residing in other geographies are Dafnis Prieto, Adonis González, Yaite Ramos, Yosvany Terry and his Afro-Cuban Quintet, Dizzy Gillespie and Afro-Cuban Experience project, Keyla Orozco and his Tap project, Aymée Nuviola and the Tiempo Libre ensemble.

The report highlights that the return of the prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso and the National Ballet of Cuba to the United States will take place at the Opera House, says CREART, the largest hall of the Center for large-scale shows.

That performance will be one of the main attractions of the event, with a program of presentations that commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first major tour of the company by the US, which began at the Kennedy Center.

The Dance Companies Malpaso and Irene Rodríguez will attend the meeting, which will perform at the Terrace Theater, a stage created for performances of chamber music, ballet, contemporary dance and theater.

The theater shows will be in charge of the companies Teatro El Público and Argos Teatro, which will be presented at the Terrace Theater and the Family Theater.

The plastic arts and design will have ideal space to exhibit the works of the creators Manuel Mendive, Roberto Fabelo, Roberto Diago, José Parla and Emilio Pérez.

The meeting will present a retrospective in homage to the 40 years of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, with the screening of six recognized Cuban films: Memories of Underdevelopment, Portrait of Teresa, Lucia, Strawberry and Chocolate, Suite Havana and Conduct.

According to the note, a sample of film posters made in Cuba will also be presented, which will include twenty-five originals that cover the period from 1964 to 2015, with serigraphs of Cuban and foreign films. (Taken from Cuban News Agency)
