Cuban famous rumba group Los Muñequitos de Matanzas will keep on touring the country in October, celebrating its 65th anniversary, as told by Centro Provincial de la Música Rafael Somavilla (Cpmrs) Tuesday.
The tour will take place between October 9 and 23 on seven Cuban provinces, continuing the presentations started in April.

The group Los Muñequitos de Matanzas was born on October 9, 1952 in a bar called El Gallo, in the neighborhood called La Marina, Matanzas. Many specialists consider this group one of the best exponents of rumba in Cuba.

Its singers Esteban Lantrí (Saldiguera), and Hortensio Alfonso (Virulilla) were protagonists of one of the most famous duos of rumba remembered in the history.

‘They popularized (Saldiguera and Virulilla)) in their voices works like El Chisme de La Cuchara, Maria la Nieve, Los Beodos, Tierra de Hatuey, between many others that they cultivated with real passion and pride’, he pointed out.

Sixty-five years after the emergence – he said – ‘Los Muñequitos de Matanzas continue in the street ,conquering laurels with new members, but with the same intention of announcing a rhythm declared an Immaterial Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO’. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
