The Institute of Meteorology issued an information note at noon on Thursday about the occurrence of heavy and intense rains in the western region.

The persistence of a trough on the southeast of the Gulf of Mexico in combination with a warm and humid flow of the south, have encouraged the activity of heavy rains and thunderstorms during the last 24 hours over the western region of the country, which were particularly strong and intense in some localities.
According to the network of stations of the Institute of Meteorology and rain gauges from the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, the largest accumulated rains were: Bainoa, Mayabeque, 214 mm; Telecorreo Caraballo, Mayabeque, 198 mm; Canasí Reservoir, Mayabeque, 175.4 mm; Bainoa Meteorological Station, Mayabeque, 168 mm, Jibacoa Reservoir, Mayabeque, 160.1 mm; and at least another 10 where numbers were 100 mm and above.
Over 200 people were taken to shelters in areas with floods, and there were no reports of human losses. (Taken from Cuban News Agency)
