On May 28, the fourth day of his official visit to Bolivia, the First Vice President of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, toured the Samaipata archeological site.
Díaz-Canel also visited the town of Samaipata, a place mentioned by Ernesto Che Guevara in his diaries from his time spent in the Andean nation. There the Cuban official spoke with residents who recalled the presence of Che and his comrades in the region.

The Cuban Vice President began his official visit to Bolivia on May 25, with the aim of strengthening the fraternal ties between the two countries and honoring Che on the 50th anniversary of his death.
Meanwhile, bad weather prevented Díaz-Canel and the Cuban delegation from making their scheduled visit to La Higuera were the guerilla hero was assassinated.
During his tour of Samaipata, the Cuban Vice President was accompanied by Bolivia’s defense minister Reymi Ferreira, Bolivian Ambassador to Cuba, Juan Ramón Quintana; Cuban Ambassador in La Paz, Benigno Pérez; and the General Counsel of the city of Santa Cruz, Raúl Sánchez.
Díaz-Canel also paid tribute to Che during a tour of historic sites in Vallegrande where residents recall the presence of the revolutionary leader.
Alongside members of the Cuban Delegation, he also visited the Fosa de los Guerrilleros (Guerillas’ grave) where the remains of the only female member of the unit Tamara Bunke (Tania) were found alongside those of other comrades.
The Cuban official also traveled to the Ernesto Che Guevara Memorial erected at the site where his remains, and those of many of his comrades, were buried for over 30 years. (Taken from en.granma.cu)
