Cuban President, Raul Castro, has welcomed his counterpart from the Sahrawi Democratic Arab Republic (SADR), Brahim Ghali, on an official visit to the Caribbean nation.
The Cuban head of State reaffirmed that the present situation in Western Sahara is urgently requiring a big effort to implement the relevant United Nations resolutions so as to guarantee the Sahrawi people´s self-determination, as well as the exercise of their legitimate right to live in peace in their own territory.
Previously, the Sahrawi president paid tribute to the Cuba´s National Hero Jose Marti at the homonymous Memorial of Havana´s Revolution Square, accompanied by Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra.
Following the wreath ceremony, Ghali visited this facility where different documents and objects related to Jose Marti´s life and work are exhibited.
In an solemn act held this morning at the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Ghali stressed the Sahrawi’s willingness to continue fighting for national independence and thanked Cuba for its support.
Upon the Sahrawi president´s arrival in Havana, Ghali considered it has been ‘great honor’ to visit Cuba, which he considers as a sister nation.
As part of his official program of activities, starting friday, the Saharawi president will travel to the province of Santiago de Cuba, the eastern region of the Caribbean Island, so as to pay tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, at the Santa Ifigenia cemetery.
