Yesterday March 13, the 60th anniversary of the assault on the Presidential Palace and the occupation of Radio Reloj by the Revolutionary Directorate, a commemoration was held at the Museum of the Revolution in Havana, with the attendance of Miguel Díaz-Canel, Party Political Bureau member and first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers.

In the name of Cuba’s youth, Federation of University Students (FEU) President Jennifer Bello presented special distinctions to a group of survivors of the assault, including Rebel Army veteran Faure Chomón.

Also participating in the event were Olga Lidia Tapia Iglesias, a member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat; Roberto Montesinos Pérez, head of the Central Committee’s culture and propaganda department; José Carrillo Gómez, president of the Combatants of the Cuban Revolution Association; Susely Morfa González, first secretary of the Young Communists League, among other leaders.

A tribute to student leader José Antonio Echeverría, who led the assault took place in the city of Cardenas, Matanzas province. Floral wreaths in the name of President Raúl Castro; the Cuban people; the Council of State; and the FEU were laid at the site where his remains rest.

During a ceremony outside the cemetery, Teresa Rojas Monzón, Party first secretary in the province, and university student Adrián Villa Lavín emphasized the unwavering revolutionary spirit of Echeverría and the youth who struggled against the Batista dictatorship, whose legacy remains alive today for new generations.
