Times Magazine: Why Is Cuba So Good At Fighting Ebola?

An article published by times magazine recognizes that the internationalism carried out by Cuban doctors is a national priority in this country that is why Cuba is singularly prepared to fight Ebola virus.

This text, which has been recently published in this influential American website with the title, Why is Cuba so good at fighting Ebola, highlights the heroism of Cuba being the first country to send hundreds health staff to Western Africa.

It also stresses that despite Cuba is not a rich country, it is one of the nations more committed, when it has to be with medical assistance in zones of crisis.

The article written by Alexandra Sifferelin stresses that Cuba has offered health staff to Western Africa, and at present there are 256 doctors and nurses there; 165 in Sierra Leona, 53 in Liberia and 38 in Guinea Conakry in coordination with the World health Organization (WHO).

More than 50,000 Cuban workers in health branch are working in 66 countries worldwide, reported Times Magazine, at the same time it highlights its system of response to catastrophes developed by the Cuban government.

“When Cuban doctors graduate, they have the opportunity to work as volunteers to fulfill medical missions in natural catastrophe’s situations, the American article says.

Time reminds that more than 23,000 doctors from communities of low incomes from 83 countries (including the United States), have graduated in the Latin American Medicine School (ELAM) in Havana, Cuba and about 10,000 are registered right now.

The magazine, which is edited in several languages is published since 1923, and recognizes that Cuba, by its medical assistances, gains prestige for its good will and cooperation spirit.

The publication highlights that the Cuban model has a message for the international community and that we can work to improve health in every country, and deepen on the preparation to be sustainable in crisis.
