The certainty that it is possible to fight against cancer and reduce mortality are if you change visions and ways of life and it is early detected for diagnose and treatment, said professor Lorenzo Anasagasti from the Oncologic and Radiology Institute in a conference during the International Congress Labiofam 2014 to be closed on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Conventional Palace.

He said that cancer is an extreme complex concept self destructive of the health-illness process that can be studied by clinical method or auxiliary means for diagnose, more or less complex. Some of the characteristics can only be known with advanced technologies.

He stressed that time is an important factor in its process. No one goes to bed without cancer and wakes up with it. In this phenomenon environmental, social, political and scientific aspects influence; so, it is sensitive for modifications and diverse actions that can change the natural history of the illness.

The investigator informed that in 2012 there were registered in the world more than 14 million new cases and more than 8 million deaths. The 57 percent of the cases were in the regions with less development, where the 65 percent of the patients died.

In Cuba, where cancer is in the first position of cause of death, there are therapies to fight it going from surgery, radio therapy, chemotherapy, combinations of treatments and better methods for diagnose associated to the treatment.

He noted that in Cuba, this evil is fought with a general view: all suspecting cancer, less diagnosing, few treating it and many monitoring the patients treated. At the primary level of health the essential thing, he said, is the health education, prevention and self care; indication of risky groups, suspect and early detection, as well as active investigation programs.

Among the recommendations to fight this disease, he said, there are habits and ways of life; no smoking, active physical life according to the age and capacity, feeding with fruits and vegetables, pay attention to avoid obesity, suffer diabetes, among other things to prevent.

About 300 delegates from Cuba and abroad attend Labiofam Congress 2014 with its III Symposium on products for cancer therapies.
