The fight against Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitos is national priority not only for the Health Minister but also all the organizations of the State. There is a call from the local governments to reduce the presence which is the cause of dengue and the risk to introduce chikungunya outbreaks because the Cuban population is sensitive.

“It also happens with gastrointestinal diseases: sometimes are not cholera, others are. Any symptom of diarrhea in a sanitary complicated environment is considered suspicious of the illness. Then we confirm, and should not long the action against these cases.”

A number of cases are confirmed and they take actions at local level so, lesser people could be complicated. There are all the types of dengue at present that is why the situation is more dangerous.

The call is to strengthen the fight to eliminate mosquito breeding; the population must demand the cycles of fumigations and checking by the control sanitary brigade. Houses and workplaces must be thoroughly checked, with the help of the workers, union leaders, directives and politicians. The 60 percent of the mosquito breeding are in clean water, so there is the main problem.

In respect to the Giant African Nail we currently are living in Cuba. It was recently discovered in this territory and Doctor Jorge Perez Avila, director form the Tropical Medicine Institute Pedro Kouri, informed that the most important thing to do is the hygiene measures: you cannot eat it, direct contact with it should be avoided, and you should wash your hands if you have touched the mollusk. Today’s world demands us to live clean.
