The visit to Cuba by Chinese President Xi Jinping shows today a new stage in the deepening of bilateral relations, expressed in the strengthening of traditional ties of friendship and cooperation in several areas.

After complying with an intensive agenda since his arrival to the island on Monday, Jul 21, the Asian statesman, accompanied by his Cuba peer Raul Castro, concluded yesterday his stay here with a tour of historic sites of the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba.

In the Caribbean nations second city, both statesmen visited sites of great significance for the Cuban Revolution, such as the Moncada Garrison, the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery (a place where both paid tribute to National Hero Jose Marti in the mausoleum that holds his remains), among other places of interest.

Xi Jinping held official talks on Tuesday, July 22, with Raul Castro, in which the excellent state of the bilateral ties, an expression of brotherhood bonds joining the peoples and governments of China and Cuba, were revealed.

Both statesmen stressed the willingness to continue developing full and comprehensively relations between the two countries, with emphasis in the implementation of the Bilateral Economic Agenda. They also discussed issues of international events.

After concluding this meeting and in the presence of the respective delegations, Raul Castro bestowed the Jose Marti Order, Cuba’s highest decoration, upon his Chinese peer.

Later, some 29 agreements were signed in sectors such as finances, biotechnology, agriculture, infrastructure, renewable energies, health, culture, and education, among other cooperation areas.

Xi also met with the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, a meeting held at an atmosphere of friendship, expressive of the historic ties between the parties and governments of the two nations.

During the meeting, both figures reflected about the international situation and the enormous dangers and challenges humanity is experiencing.

They also referred to the declaration signed in the recent Summit of BRICS country members ((Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) held in Fortaleza, Brazil, as well as the transcendence of the tour the Chinese statesman carried out of Latin America. (Prensa Latina)
