Jesus Arias Pages grew up in Guaimaro locality in the country side. He never dreamt to be a ballet dancer. “I was never a boy used to be dreaming on what I was going to be. Besides, there is no one in my family in arts. One day a professor arrived at my school and started making aptitude tests. I passed. My mother hesitated at the beginning, but at the end she agreed. My father did not want to define my future; he was convinced that was my own decision to take. At the end, I went to Camaguey to study.

You are a classic ballet dancer, but what you perform I more contemporaneous

I later realized my body had more to be with the contemporaneous dance rather than the classic. After I graduated, I entered Endedans ballet leaded by Tania Vergara, and I am still here.

What is dance good for?

It is good for many things, I suppose. But in my case it had helped me to feel confidence, face obstacles of life. I have danced difficult things, which are shocking to me; but I have told myself: You should to do it, because it is the only way to improve.

Was this change easy for you?

Not at all, and for those who know me have appreciated all the difficulties I had gone through. I had to travel long distances and at home, I had to help my parents with the farm.

You are now lining in Camaguey which has a great dance tradition.

Yes, I now live in Camaguey with my couple Lisandra Gomez who is also a dancer in Endedans. That helps a lot, but I feel we are in disadvantage. There are few people coming to Camaguey to stage and teach workshops. We just have to make good use of the experience and opportunities.

Of all your dances, what has marked you the most?

It enjoyed dancing La Carmen very much, a choreography by Tania, taken from the famous story. I have performed all the roles. Each character demands peculiar things.

You have received an Award of Choreography from the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) for your performance as Juan in La Carmen

Yes, it was a surprise for me; the award has helped me feel myself more confident, mature. Although in this career you never finish learning. I believe I am in a great moment of my career and I will not lose my time, I will devote more in my life to my dance.
