The main purpose of the National Organization of Lawyer’s Offices (ONBC) is to offer a service of quality to natural people (citizens) and legal ones (entities, enterprises), this is the reason why, great importance is given to the preparation and training of the professionals.

Lilia Maria Hernandez Doejo, secretary of the directive joint reported to Trabajadores newspaper their legal activities and some useful elements for the Cuban population.

She talked about the services of the Lawyer’s Offices that besides the legal consultations freely offered in the 184 offices, citizens can ask for lawyer’s representation to establish a process, while there is a litigation, lawsuit or law claims in the popular courts or the organs or organisms of the administration in several matters: family, civil, criminal, commercial, labor and economic, among others.

The ONBC has two specialized lawyer’s offices, one of them in appeal, which is in Old Havana municipality with national characteristic that assist in all branches of Law to natural and legal people who are nonconformist with the sentence or resolution passed by the popular provincial court.

She also said that the appeal is the one carried out against the sentence which is not an enforceable judgment and, therefore, is subject to be revised by the supreme court, in this case the Popular Supreme Court.

The other one, whose venue is on the corner of 23 and J Streets, Plaza de la Revolución municipality, deals with those matters in obtaining legalization in procedures, marketing processes, author’s right, intellectual, industrial legal, civil and family property. The service can be requested by Cubans living in the country or abroad and by foreigners.

While explaining the job of the lawyers in these offices, which is every time more integral, she stressed that the fact of assisting legal people, allow them a greater link with the dispositions related to the spheres they will assume, of the ministries, either in Work and Social Security, Finance and Prices, Economy and Planning.

She added these professionals are qualified in all the branches of Law and updated in what happens in the country, participate in the economic and countable life of the enterprises, make reports and announce resolutions when necessary. To do it, they are trained in courses like Tax, Agriculture and Labor Laws, the intellectual and industrial property which are given in the provinces in the national Center for professional Development.

Since the updating of the economic model, the lawyer’s offices have increased their services, either for the legal contracts and the consultation for the population as example in the free advice to those who would like to found cooperatives and the self-employees.

Hernandez Doejo answered to some people, called by the National Office of the Tax System (ONAT) as sub-deponents in relation to the payment of the taxes and said they can go to the lawyer’s offices, because it is a claim of rights before the State.

The lawyer’s offices are at present having their meetings with the goal to review the fulfilment of their strategic objectives, where not only participate the 2,031 lawyers, from them the 72 percent are women, but also all the staff from the offices, who are already more than 4,000.

Hernandez Doejo said that the ONBC will celebrate next January 22, its 49th anniversary, and in view to the 50th anniversary, from now on they will work on a multimedia, which will have the history of the Cuban revolutionary law and will be the continuity of the material People’s Lawyers which was done to celebrate another commemoration.
