The approval of the new Labor Code after the hard popular and parliamentarian discussions and the results of the economy this year, together with its perspectives for year 2014 are good examples of how our citizens should never be happy with the minimum things and bet for the maximum but without conformism.

It was evident for everybody who followed the work in commissions and the second ordinary period of sessions of the Parliament’s 8th Legislature recently concluded with a healthy tendency of the most critical and polemical analysis in the Cuban society.

The union clearly demonstrated this democratic practice, where more than 2,800,000 workers gave their opinions to improve the legislation that will be passed in the Labor Code.

There were several enriching and even in contrast opinions and suggestions in the heart of the Parliament, with the goal to agree “the most advanced and revolutionary possible law, under the supreme principle, above any legal technical term, to make the application of the right to the most humane and inclusive policy that should prevail in a Socialist Revolution,” as a parliamentarian expressed.

It was also important the indicators and the projections that emerged during the sessions of the national Assembly of the People’s Power with the estimate growth of the GDP of about 2,7 percent this year and a discrete economic increase of 2,2 percent foreseen for 2014. This urges us to seriously make reflections on the urgent need to get higher levels of productivity and efficiency that will promote our development.

The failure to comply the productivity levels planned in several branches and the lack of resources are yet present in the substitution of importations; deficiencies in the preparation and applications of the inversions are still limiting our improvement in a good satisfaction of the population’s needs.

So, we consider essential the rigor and accuracy the country goes on with, having more participation with the updating of the economic model and the implementation of the Guidelines from the 6th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba. The deputies also received detailed information on its application.

According to the President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Army General Raul Castro, the main thing is the capacity of the workers, and also the union movement to prevent any deviation to the economic and social policy passed with intelligence, fighting spirit with the popular opinions on the new Labor Code. He also alerted on the prevention of the problems; act immediately without hesitating, even better when they are little and isolated ones, because it will be better than paying a political cost that could involve apathy to comply legality.”

We know that neither in a law nor for an economy or society like ours, will perhaps not be possible to achieve perfection, but we should also never be happy with the minimum, while having the opportunity to try.
