It is a rainy morning, but it is not important for those children who are hospitalized for a long time due to illnesses or congenital malformations. For them, language and life has to do with shots, wounds, decipherable equipments, drugs, with love of their parents and the doctors and nurses who take care of them.

However, from time to time, an angel comes with more than a kiss, a smile, and a caress. Some enterprises, organizations and institutions take very serious the task to bring as presents toys to those hospitalized in a kind, solidarity and humane gesture.

Thanks to them, children suffering heart diseases hospitalized in the Cardio-Pediatric Center William Soler had a different morning: the Agriculture Delegation from Havana surprised them with a toy for each of them. This is done every year in different hospitals of the capital.

Happiness helps health

Yoandy Garrido, psychologist of the hospital stresses the benefit of these toys in the recovering and the mud of the patient hospitalized.

“These children, old enough to understand what happens around them, link the hospital with something bad, and anything that will bring them happiness, has a positive psychological impact that could influence in a better recovering. It is something that they enjoy, they are entertained and prevents to be depressed.

That is why we appreciate a lot this gesture of great importance for us, frequently held by institutions and all people having these initiatives. Sometimes, Mantquilla clown comes and does its therapy in the wards or the cubicles, and we can see the happiness of the children, in better mud and disposition for the treatments.

It is very important the conditions of the facilities where the children are. The Oncology and Transplant wards of the pediatric hospital are very pretty.

Doctor Lysmara Senra, chief of 1A ward also highlighted this gesture. We can see how happy the patients are with their toys and their relatives are pleased that not only the staff of the hospital helps them, but also other institutions are supporting them with their relatives.

We treat patients with heart diseases, and we give them all the necessary services to improve their way of life. Every toy a child receives is a stimulus in his life and a way to unleash happiness.

Maria Elena Santos, pediatrician from the Oncology ward at William Soler Hospital said they also bring books of all kinds as gifts and they learn too, because they can neither go to the nursery nor to school.

I want to be a nurse

Melissa, a four years old girl with curly hair, who received an infirmary set toy as a present, looks as if she has discovered her vocation. Minutes before, she was crying on the bed and with her face covered with the sheets. Soon after, she had deployed all her equipment on the bed acting as a nurse injecting a baby. Her eyes were sparkling and she said to her mother: “I want to be a nurse.”

The young mother Geidy Calzada is really happy. “I have no time to go out of the hospital to buy a toy for my son Victor Manuel. We live in another province and sometimes we have been for three months in the Oncology ward that is why, I really appreciate this gesture of love, these people that we even do not know, have with us.
