Raul Castro Congratulates Fernandez for his Honoris Causa

General Army Raul Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Councils of State and Ministers congratulated on Monday, November 4, Division General (from the reserve), Jose Ramon Fernandez, Hero of the Cuban Republic who received the Honoris Cause in Military Sciences title.

“We feel proud of Fernandez, Raul said in the ceremony held in the Academy of the Armed Forces General Maximo Gomez, also Antonio Maceo and Carlos Juan Finlay Orders, in Havana, where Division General Roberto Legra, director of this institution, handed over the title to Fernandez.

Corp Army General Leopoldo Cintra Frias, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and minister of the Armed Forces (FAR) and other chiefs, congratulated “El Gallego Fernandez”, who is member of the Central Committee of the PCC and advisor of the President of the Councils of State and Ministers.

Fernandez was also celebrating his 90th birthday, at the same time he was receiving honors for his life devoted to the defense of the homeland and the training and consolidation of the Cuban troops.

Fernandez was born in Santiago de Cuba in 1923; he is graduated in Social Sciences and is one of the historical leaders of the Revolution. He founded the Basic College that preceded the current military academy.

He was career soldier, and devoted to the triumphal revolution in 1959, under the orders of Commander Fidel Castro and actively participated in the heroic deed of Playa Giron, first military defeat of imperialism in America.

In all his life, he has been appointed in several responsibilities in the government with extreme discipline and efficiency highlighted by Fidel and Raul.

In the ceremony, there were also members of the Academy; Rodolfo Alarcon, minister of High Education and Fernandez’ relatives, among them his wife Asela de los Santos, founder of the first squad of combatant women called Mariana Grajales.
