Miguel Diaz- Canel, Cuban prime deputy minister of the Council of State and Ministers ratified he trusts the Cuban media, in a meeting with journalists from Holguin (eastern province), as part of the process to fulfil the agreements of the Association of Cuban Journalists’ Congress.

Diaz-Canel highlighted the loyalty of the professionals and said they have been able to temper their job in relation to the updating of the economic model and spread the main transformations taking place in the country.

He made a call to the journalists to keep on studying and have a better training, because if they do not know the editorial policy, the means of the media, the style chart, the information and the priority topics, they will not be able to respond to the goals.

He stressed on the importance of the workshops which are a continuity of the Congress and help improve the media performance, so they should be done any time if necessary to talk about the problems from a creative point of view.

Some journalists asked him about the difficulties to have access to some sources which are sheltered in excessive secrecy, not to give the information, and he said the information is a public benefit that no one has the right to hide.

“We should respect what is published by the press, the opinions of the people, the public claims. The organisms should respond with concrete actions to give solution to the problem, not with words, that is what makes us believe.”

“Not everything published is good or bad, he said. There should be a balance, because life has its nuances, and we should show that reality. We should talk about the good things and the bad things in each topic and how we are going to solve them.”

“Nevertheless, he noted, there are some journalists who practice self-censorship and they wait for the guidance to publish an event, instead of taking an offensive attitude since the beginning, in spite of no prohibition to it.”

The First Deputy Minister also noted the need to use more the social nets, because if the hundred thousand people having access to Internet, at least write a message a day, we will be a real avalanche in favor to the Revolution.”

Diaz-Canel urged the journalists to join the battle against social indiscipline, illegalities, vulgarity, corruption and all those negative actions with opinion articles and reflections to touch the feelings of the people.
